Testosterone is the most important hormone in male health, which is a steroid hormone with 19 carbon atoms. Low testosterone levels in men are associated with sexual dysfunction (low sexual desire, erectile dysfunction), reduced skeletal muscle mass and strength, decreased bone mineral density, increased cardiovascular risk and alterations of the glycometabolic profile. Studies have shown that the serum total testosterone (TT) levels are decreased due to aging and in the presence of comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases, which are quite common in SARS-CoV-2 patients.
