D-Mannitol 69-65-8 Usage

D-mannitol is the D enantiomer of mannitol.

D-Mannitol, a naturally occurring six-carbon sugar alcohol or polyol, is found in plants such as algae, onions, grasses, and olives. It used to increase urine production (diuretic). It is also used to treat or prevent medical conditions that are caused by an increase in body fluids/water (e.g., cerebral edema, glaucoma, kidney failure). The acyclic sugar alcohol D-mannitol is an excipient commonly used in the pharmaceutical formulation of tablets or granulated powders for oral use. It's chief advantage is good chemical stability.

Elucidating the effect of solid base on the hydrogenation of C5 and C6 sugars over Pt–Sn bimetallic catalyst at room temperature

Tathod, Anup P.,Dhepe, Paresh L.

, (2021/05/19)

Conversion of sugars into sugar alcohols at room temperature with exceedingly high yields are achieved over Pt–Sn/γ-Al2O3 catalyst in the presence of calcined hydrotalcite. In the current work, effect of both; solid base and Sn as a promoter has been studied to improve the yields of sugar alcohols from various C5 and C6 sugars at very mild reaction conditions.
