Metronidazole 443-48-1 Usage

Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antibiotic, also known as metronidazol and novonidazol. It was initially used to treat vaginal trichomaniasis, with very significant clinical effects. Metronidazole, an antibiotic against broad anaerobes, was linked to fluorouridine to form an amphiphilic small molecule, metronidazole–fluorouridine, which further autoassembled as metronidazole–fluorouridine nanoparticles (MTI-FDU) in a hydrophilic solution. It was demonstrated that metronidazole could induce maternal and fetal hepatotoxicity. Metronidazole (MNZ) is commonly used to treat diseases associated with parasites, microaerophilic bacteria, and anaerobic bacteria. It is also added to poultry and fish feed to help eliminate parasites .

Promoted elimination of metronidazole in ferrous ions activated peroxydisulfate process by gallic acid complexation

Shoufeng Tang, Eryu Zhu, Zhihui Zhai, Huilin Liu, Zhibing Wang, Tifeng Jiao, Qingrui Zhang, Deling Yuan

Chemosphere Volume 319, April 2023, 138025

As an antimicrobial and antigenic agent, metronidazole (MTZ) has been broadly used in prevention and infection management resulted from anaerobic bacteria (Rodríguez-Chueca et al., 2019). In this work, the environmentally friendly GA was added into the PDS/Fe2+ Fenton-like system as a complexing agent for MTZ removal.

Reduction of metronidazole in municipal wastewater and protection of activated sludge system using a novel immobilized Aspergillus tabacinus LZ-M

Bioresource Technology Volume 369, February 2023, 128509

Immobilized LZ-M was introduced into AAS systems for bioaugmentation, effectively removing Metronidazole (MNZ) from wastewater and increasing COD degradation efficiency and gas production. Furthermore, bioaugmentation reduced the toxic effect of MNZ on activated sludge, facilitated its metabolism and growth, and maintained microbial community stability.
